Member Ticketing FAQs

Is a Friends of the Tennessee membership the same as a Broadway Subscription?

No. A Friends of the Tennessee membership will not automatically grant you season tickets to our Broadway series. A Broadway Subscription is a season pass to all our Broadway shows. Subscription sales are separate from Friends of the Tennessee pre-sales. To learn more about purchasing a Broadway Subscription, please visit our Broadway webpage.

How do I purchase tickets during the Friends-only pre-sale?

You will receive an email from our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator Matthew Fisher at (mfisher@tennesseetheatre.com) on the Sunday prior to a Friday public on-sale. You will then be able to request tickets on the online form linked in the email. Please specify your seating preferences in the “Additional Information” field listed in the form, and Matthew will then assign seats accordingly. Depending on your membership level, you may request tickets on specific days:

  • Monday – Platinum and Diamond Friends ($5,000 and up)
  • Tuesday – Gold Friends ($1,000 - $4,999)
  • Wednesday – Silver Friends ($500 - $999)

Pre-sale dates and fulfillment dates are subject to change. In those instances, we will provide you with details on what day you will have access to pre-sale tickets. To purchase tickets after the pre-sale has closed, you must go through the box office, but you are still eligible for Friends of the Tennessee ticket availability & fee waiver. We encourage you to purchase tickets as soon as possible once your access begins to secure the best available seating.

I am a Silver+ member and tried to buy tickets through Ticketmaster.com online, but it is not waiving ticket fees, which is one of my benefits. Do I need a code?

In order to receive waived ticket fees (as well as the best available seats), you will need to utilize the ticket request form linked in the Friends of Tennessee presale email. Any tickets purchased through Ticketmaster online are subject to ticket fees and may not be the best available seats.

How will I know when new shows are going on sale?

You will receive an email from Matthew Fisher, our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator, on the Sunday prior to a Friday public on-sale. If you are a Friend of the Tennessee and are not receiving emails, please contact our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator Matthew Fisher at 865.684.1200 ext. 198 or at mfisher@tennesseetheatre.com to update your contact information.

These days of the week are our general schedule. Some on-sales and notifications may happen on other days of the week. In those instances, we will provide you with details on what day you will have access to tickets. Access to tickets begins on the day of the week noted, but you may purchase tickets at any time. We encourage you to purchase tickets as soon as possible in order to secure the best available seating.

Who in my household can purchase tickets with my membership?

You and your spouse/partner whose name is given to us when you join may purchase tickets with your membership. If you do not have a spouse or partner but wish for someone else in your household, such as a child, to be able to purchase tickets, please contact us.

How many tickets to each show can I purchase as a Friend of the Tennessee?

You may purchase up to four tickets per show per household.

There is a show going on sale in just a few days that I want good seats for. Can I become a Friend today to access the FOTT pre-sale?

Yes. You can become a member the week of a show’s on-sale date and gain access to tickets before the public on-sale. To ensure access, please contact our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator Matthew Fisher at 865.684.1200 ext. 198 after joining. Matthew will confirm your membership and ensure that you are on the pre-sale mailing list.

Can I purchase tickets for my friends through my membership?

As a member, you may purchase up to four tickets per show. We would love for you to bring friends with you to shows, but we discourage purchasing tickets on friends’ behalf on a regular basis. If you have friends, family, or colleagues who wish to get the best tickets for shows they wish to attend on their own, please encourage them to become a member. If you have any question about this policy, please contact our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator Matthew Fisher at 865.684.1200 ext. 198 or at mfisher@tennesseetheatre.com.

I know there is a newsletter pre-sale for most shows. What is the benefit of being a Friend if I can get tickets in a newsletter pre-sale?

Members get access to the best available seats and the total number of tickets available to members is not limited (as a whole; each household is limited to four tickets per show). While there is a pre-sale for newsletter subscribers, there is a very limited quantity of tickets available through that pre-sale, and the seating locations are scattered throughout the house.

Do I get special access or personal service for VIP packages available at some shows?

VIP packages are coordinated and managed by the artist. While there are some exceptions, most VIP packages are sold online only, are subject to ticket fees, and cannot be sold through the Tennessee Theatre Box Office in advance.

Is there a ticket resale program for Friends of the Tennessee?

The Tennessee Theatre does not offer or facilitate a ticket resale program for tickets that you can no longer use. Many patrons have success selling tickets by word-of-mouth or by utilizing social media. All ticket sales are final.

It is Thursday morning, and I missed the deadline to submit my ticket request form. Can I still get tickets?

Since the deadline of Wednesday evening at 5pm has passed, you will need to contact the general Box Office for tickets. If you receive the Tennessee Theatre newsletter, there will be a presale code contained in the newsletter that you can use to purchase tickets prior to the public on-sale on Friday*. You can either call the box office at (865) 684-1200 or visit the Event Calendar page to purchase tickets online. As a Friend, you receive the benefit of waived ticket fees. Please order your tickets through the box office in order to have your fees waived. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter

*These days of the week are our general schedule.

How do Ticket Exchanges work for Friends of the Tennessee Theatre?

The Tennessee Theatre does not offer refunds or exchanges for shows that you can no longer attend, even if you are an FOTT member. The only exception to this rule is for Friends who have purchased Broadway subscriptions. More information about Broadway subscriptions can be found in our Broadway FAQs

If you are a Broadway subscriber, you have the ability to exchange your tickets for another date of the same production if you can no longer attend a certain show date. If you have physical tickets, you must either bring your tickets into the Box Office on Clinch Avenue, or mail them in. We will not be able to process an exchange for you until we receive your original tickets, and we cannot guarantee that your desired seats will be available.

Membership FAQs

How long is my membership valid?

Your membership is valid for 12 months from the time you join. If you join in April, your membership is valid through April 30 of the next year.

Can I pay my membership in installments? If so, when will I begin receiving benefits?

If you join online, you will be given the option on the sign-up form to make your donation recurring. You can set a schedule for donations to be made monthly, quarterly, or annually. If you wish to join via phone and want to set up a recurring donation, please let us know and we can process your membership accordingly. You will begin receiving benefits immediately. Should your recurring payment halt (often due to a credit card number change), your member benefits will cease until payments are back on schedule.

If I pay with a credit card, will my membership renew automatically each year?

If you join online, you will be given the option on the sign-up form to make your gift recurring. You can set recurring gifts to be made monthly, quarterly, or annually. If you wish to join via phone and want to set up recurring gifts, please let us know and we can process your membership accordingly.

How much of my membership gift is tax deductible?

The tax-deductible amount of your membership is dependent upon the benefits you choose. If you elect none, your full membership gift may qualify as a tax deduction. Please consult your tax adviser or the IRS to determine deductibility.

How does my membership help the Tennessee?

Your annual membership donation is instrumental in our success and allows us to expand the ways we serve the community. Over the last five years with members’ generous support, we have been able to:

  • Host free community events such as open houses and our monthly Mighty Musical Monday concert, all of which allow us to open the Theatre’s doors to our community
  • Expand our educational programming through Theatre Arts for All which includes subsidized student tickets for Broadway shows, student tours, masterclasses, and more!
  • Build partnerships with local organizations to provide the Theatre with a wider reach in our community
  • Preserve this historic landmark for the next generation of theatregoers

How will I know when my membership is about to expire?

You will receive a printed letter via mail alerting you when your membership is due for renewal approximately 5 weeks prior to expiration. You will also receive an email reminder approximately two weeks prior to expiration. If, at any time, you wish to confirm your membership expiration date, contact our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator Matthew Fisher at 865.684.1200 ext. 198 or at mfisher@tennesseetheatre.com.

I’d like to upgrade my membership, but it is not yet time to renew. How do I go about upgrading early?

If you wish to upgrade your membership before its expiration, please contact our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator Matthew Fisher at 865.684.1200 ext. 198 or at mfisher@tennesseetheatre.com.

How do I purchase a gift membership for someone else?

A Friends of the Tennessee Membership makes a wonderful gift! To purchase a gift membership, please contact our Friends of the Tennessee coordinator Matthew Fisher at 865.684.1200 ext. 198 or at mfisher@tennesseetheatre.com.
