Known by its misleading nickname “Pathétique,” Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 is anything but. Its Russian title translates to “passionate” or “emotional,” and it lives up to both of those descriptions and more! Andrew Staupe makes his KSO debut on a program that also features two local favorites: KSO Resident Conductor James Fellenbaum and Knoxville-based composer Dosia McKay.
“During my journey I had the idea for another symphony, this time with a programme, but such a programme that will remain an enigma to everyone – let them guess.” – Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Dosia McKay – Watercolors (World Premiere)
Alexander Scriabin – Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 20 in f-sharp minor
Pyotr Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 6, “Pathetique”
