Education & Outreach
The Tennessee Theatre is committed to making the arts accessible to everyone in our community.
The Tennessee Theatre Youth Arts Alliance education outreach program
was founded in 2007 by the Tennessee Theatre, Knox County Schools and
corporate partner Quantum Environmental & Engineering Services, LLC
(QE2) with the hope that if school-age children attend world-class
performances in one of the most well-known theaters in the region, they
would leave the experience enriched and inspired.
Goals for the Tennessee Theatre Youth Arts Alliance include:
- Engage disadvantaged youth in the performing arts
- Encourage cultural, musical and theatrical education
- Expose students to a range of musical influences and career paths in the performing arts
- Provide students with tickets to world-class performances - free of cost to the students
- Introduce youth to the Tennessee Theatre and downtown Knoxville
Patrick Mulligan, Vice President of Business Development
for QE2, states that "One of the truly wonderful things about Knoxville
is the quality and variety of the performing arts available -
everything from roots to the classics to international performance.
Teaching our youth to appreciate these will strengthen and invigorate
our local assets and give a gift to our youngsters that they will carry
with them and enjoy for life."
Since its first year, the Youth
Arts Alliance has received over 1,300 ticket requests from groups and
schools in the area and the number increases regularly. The program
relies on grant money and generous donations from individuals and
businesses in the community in order to fulfill these requests for
tickets. Unfortunately, as demand for tickets increases, not every
request can be fulfilled without proper funding.
To requests tickets for a group of students or youth, please download the Ticket Application form and return to the Tennessee Theatre box office. If you have any
questions or need additional information, please call 865-684-1200
extension #2.
